Landis+Gyr partners with TEXX
for a greener mobile future
Partnership in innovative new areas of industrial design to contribute to a low-carbon economy
Zug, Switzerland, 24 May, 2011 – Landis+Gyr, the leading global provider of energy management solutions, has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with TEXX and TEXXEnergy, Swiss charging station infrastructure and battery management solutions provider. The objective is to promote ecological mobility and to commonly explore potential business fields in the area of electric mobility, including charging station technology and other related systems.

The European Commission (EC) recently released its roadmap for a low carbon economy. The Commission recognises that consumers need to have the opportunity to contribute towards increased energy efficiency. In 2010, European Commissioner Antonio Tajani gave European standardisation organisations a mandate to develop a common charging system for electric vehicles. Three bodies, the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN), the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation (CENELEC) and the European telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), are to put together a new standard that ensures that all types of electric cars, scooters and bicycles can be safely charged across all 27 EU member states.
The smart grid is seen as a key enabler of a low-carbon electricity system and will allow significant gains to be made through demand-side management and increased shares of renewables. The thread that ties all of these elements together is the energy infrastructure: the smart grid.
